Sustainability is in us
At GEN-I, we live a green future. Our services respond to the needs of today and address future trends. Our digital focus is based on a vision of a carbon-free Slovenia.
We only supply carbon-free electricity
CO2-free electricity, which has been supplied to all GEN-I’s customers in Slovenia since the beginning of 2021, has become a standard. You are the one who can select the source of energy from which your electricity is produced. We can ensure Slovenia’s carbo-free future through solar, hydro and nuclear energy.
We are the leading provider of environmentally-friendly energy solutions for customers in Slovenia and in the region. The Group already provides CO2-free electricity to more than four hundred thousand customers. In 2021, we supplied more than 3,477 million kWh in electricity and reduced the carbon footprint of our customers by 2.3 million tons of CO2 relative to 2020.
We encourage investments in renewable sources of energy
With the increasingly rapid construction of solar power plants on the roofs of individual houses and commercial buildings, GEN-I contributes significantly to the decarbonization of Slovenia.
An important tile in our mosaic of the green transformation is GEN-I Sonce, through which we continuously increase the number of solar power plants in Slovenia. With its innovative financing method, GEN-I is successful proving that solar power plants can be available to everyone.
The objective we pursue is to install a solar power plant on every Slovenian roof. That is why we developed a solution that expands the possibility of utilizing solar energy. In Budanje, working with the Municipality of Ajdovščina, we set up the first example of a community solar power plant on the roof of a primary school. We thus facilitated affordable access to solar energy for those residents who are unable to arrange self-sufficient energy supply on their own roof. We plan to use these types of power plants to build the largest self-supply community in the country.
We are developing innovative digital services
We also see a path to green transformation in continuous innovation. This is how we are able to develop new solutions that are necessary for the transition to a sustainable way of life. Opportunities for a simpler and appealing green transition are mostly seen in the digitalization of services for our customers.
Anyone can switch to carbon-free electricity completely through a digital supplier switch. We enable customers to arrange everything relating to energy supply remotely via the My GEN-I portal. We have also developed the My GEN-I Solar application for owners of GEN-I Sonce solar power plants. This application helps track the operation of their solar power plant. Through advanced digital services and advanced analytics, will we continue to offer customers even more personalized services, educate them and provide advice in order to optimize their costs, reduce energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint.
Reducing our own carbon footprint
It is our entrepreneurial nature to lead by example, even when promoting the green transformation. Since 2019, we have been measuring our carbon footprint and developing solutions that will allow us to eliminate the footprint altogether by 2025.
On the basis of a carbon footprint calculation for 2019, we established that it amounted to 1.63 tons of CO2 per employee. Based on these findings, we adopted a strategy to reduce our carbon footprint. Most of our company vehicles are already electric, and in the coming years we will only drive electric vehicles. All of our business units have been equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles, which are connected to the network and between each other with an advanced solution for effective charging. Micro electric vehicles, which we charge with electricity generated on the roofs of our e-bike sheds, are available to our employees for shorter business trips. The management of the electric vehicle system has been completely digitalized, and has thus made sustainable mobility more exciting and appealing to users.
We are proponents of neutralizing any carbon footprint that we generate by supporting and implementing green projects.
Partnerships for green future
We have linked up with ELES, Elektro Celje, Elektro Gorenjska and Elektro Ljubljana in a consortium for the promotion and acceleration of the green transformation of the Slovenian energy sector. By implementing research and development projects, the aforementioned partners pursue the objective of Slovenia’s decarbonization by 2050.
Looking ahead to a green future. Let’s create it together!
