A normal day in the life of a GEN-I trader
The day begins with an overview of what has been happening on global markets – what is affecting prices, what the main new stories are and whether any new trading opportunities have arisen. Traders design trading strategies by sharing data quickly with the analysts, who share the same space as the traders daily. Decisions are taken on the best way to approach a trade depending on the energy product: electricity, natural gas or emission allowances. The process unfolds quickly, but with care and attention.
The afternoon, when the first market transactions have already taken place, is the time for analysis. The results are reviewed, the position analysed and a strategy for the next working day prepared. Once the plans have been drawn up, traders get in contact with partners and colleagues to find new opportunities to optimise the portfolio.
