GEN-I among the winners at the 2025 Energy Awards
GEN-I has scooped a 2025 Energy Award for its vehicle fleet electrification and Smart Charge charging infrastructure management project. These awards are given every year by the Finance newspaper in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Centre at the Jožef Stefan Institute. This year we were victorious in the energy efficiency in transport and logistics category. As the organisers pointed out, the work of the selection committee was particularly tough this year, with a large number of extremely high-quality applications. This award is further proof of the technological excellence, and innovativeness of GEN-I’s efforts to increase energy efficiency and encourage lower energy consumption, particularly energy from fossil fuels.
Take a look at the photograph of the awards ceremony below. The awards are part of the ‘Energy Days’ conference, which attracts more than 250 participants every year. This is the flagship event for energy managers and experts from Slovenian companies and research institutions – indeed, for anyone with an interest in energy efficiency.
What is the winning project all about?
GEN-I has a fleet of 57 electric and eight hybrid vehicles. Seventy-five vehicles can be charged at the same time at the company’s sites in Ljubljana, Krško and Nova Gorica. Our charging infrastructure at the Ljubljana site is located in what is probably the largest underground charging area in the country.
We have developed our own system for vehicle charging management, called Smart Charge, which has lowered the costs of charging our electric fleet – that is, the costs of electricity as well as those of the network charge. The system has also enabled us to avoid having to invest in expensive upgrades to the electricity supply system and increase connection power. We will also offer our tried and tested solutions to other companies who wish to simplify the electrification of their vehicle fleet, and bring down the costs of doing so.
