This extraordinary accomplishment places us among the elite global market players and underscores our unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch services and value to our business partners. It also highlights GEN-I’s excellence in portfolio management, securing the lowest energy prices for Slovenian customers. Above all, this stands as a testament to the trust and valued partnerships GEN-I has fostered.
With a legacy of success in the Energy Risk Commodity Rankings for more than a decade, GEN-I has consistently dominated in the rankings, particularly in Southeastern Europe. Over recent years, business partners, such as other established companies on wholesale energy markets, have recognised its increasing role in the European energy sector, honouring it with tier rankings in Germany, Italy, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), and Southeastern Europe (SEE). Qualities where GEN-I does particularly well as perceived by partners were pricing, reliability, flexibility, speed of execution, integrity, market knowledge, creativity, and innovation.

The GEN-I’s expanding geographical reach and continuous technological advancements have been instrumental in its achievements at the Energy Risk Commodity Rankings 2025, earning first places in both ‘Best Overall Energy Dealer’ and ‘Best Overall Power Dealer’ categories, while also rising to fourth place as ‘Best Overall Commodities Dealer’.
The Energy Risk Commodity Rankings is the industry’s most esteemed global survey, conducted annually and based on votes from commodities professionals who select up to three preferred choices per category in markets where they were active in the preceding year. The rankings reflect not traded volumes, but the quality of services and products provided by dealers, brokers, and research firms over the past year. This year’s survey involved 1,670 respondents voting between 11th November 2024 and 27th January 2025, reinforcing the poll’s credibility and significance.
This achievement primarily reflects our extensive business activities and internationally focused strategy, which already cover 25 markets connecting Germany and France in the West with Ukraine and Turkey in the East. In 2024, the volume GEN-I achieved internationally on wholesale markets outside Slovenia was 6 times greater than Slovenia’s entire annual consumption, further highlighting the company's strong international orientation.

This was recognised by the industry by awarding GEN-I with title “Best Overall Power Dealer” as well as once again top rankings in subcategories »Best Power Trader – Europe: Central Eastern Europe« and »Best Power Trader – Europe: South Eastern Europe«. GEN-I continuously enhances its portfolio management through data-driven decisions, advanced fundamental and scenario analysis, and the integration of cutting-edge technologies like machine learning and AI.
In alignment with the growing global demand for energy transition, GEN-I has significantly focused on Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), making them central to its strategy. It manages a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets across a wider geographical area (over 600 MW), primarily in Southeast Europe, namely North Macedonia, Croatia, Albania, Serbia, and Bosnia & Herzegovina, as well as Austria. GEN-I positions itself as a one-stop shop, enabling partners also to generate an additional income through access to ancillary services markets, as GEN-I is among the largest aggregators of ancillary services in the region.

While maintaining its commitment to developing regional energy markets, GEN-I’s international strategy is focused on expansion into new geographical areas, particularly in Western Europe, where it has already gained a prominent presence in continental Europe, which will be further upgraded with entry into United Kingdom. This strategic expansion has garnered widespread recognition from key market players and esteemed counterparties, further solidifying GEN-I’s prominent industry position.
Originally focused on power trading, we have progressively expanded our portfolio to include other commodities, such as environmental products and natural gas, which plays a pivotal role in the broader energy transition and supports its core power trading activities. The company's systematic approach includes continually deepening its market expertise and understanding the complex relationships between commodities. The integration of all energy commodities into its portfolio and services, along with a thoughtful strategy, strengthened GEN-I’s reputation as a reliable market participant and trusted business partner in the global wholesale energy market. This also enables GEN-I to ensure the lowest energy prices for Slovenian customers, based on efficient management of its portfolio within its extensive wholesale trading infrastructure, which operates in 25 national markets and on more than 20 energy exchanges.
